Our Mission

We believe your menstrual health is essential when it comes to your physical, mental & reproductive health as well as gender equality. For too long, menstrual health has been under researched, underfunded & under regulated.

Your menstrual cycle doesn’t just pop up for a couple of days a month and then disappear. It’s a constant series of changes throughout the month, from the follicular phase and ovulation to the luteal phase. And the changes don’t end there, your menstrual cycle transitions & transforms over time, so whether you’ve just started your first period, trying to conceive or preparing for menopause, there’s always something new to discover.

We need solutions for period pain, education & poverty, however there’s almost no clinical research focusing on women’s health and for conditions that affect all genders - the existing research focuses solely on the male gender, disregarding our biological, physiological, psychological & social differences. If we’re ever going to achieve any kind of equality, menstrual health is in need of a revolution. We’re only just scratching the surface on menstrual health research.

We believe when it comes to our bodies, there really is no such thing as normal. So, it’s important to listen to your body and really get to know what is actually “normal” for you, this can be tracking your menstrual cycle with an app or journal to note down your flow, mood or physical changes. It’s also important to seek out medical advice & work with your doctor when things aren’t feeling right or you’re suffering in a way that affects your daily life.

Finally, it’s all about using the best possible products that have been designed to work with your body, not against it. So, that means opting for natural materials, like breathable organic cotton, that respects your vagina’s delicate pH level and doesn’t cause potential infections.

There’s plenty of ways to look after your menstrual health better, here are a few tips:

  • Dry your vagina properly after washing.
  • Avoid sex if it’s uncomfortable & always use protection.
  • Don’t use soap or shower gel on your vulva.
  • Drink lots of fluid.
  • Use organic cotton period care.
  • Wear organic cotton underwear.
  • Use sensitive or fragrance-free detergents to wash your underwear.
  • Swap to showers instead of baths.
  • Don’t use douches or deodorants on your vagina.
  • Eat a healthy & balanced diet.

You can look after your menstrual hygiene in different ways:

  • Wash your vulval area regularly, but avoid washing your vagina as it is self cleaning
  • Never use perfumed soaps or shower gels.
  • Always dry your vagina properly after washing.
  • Stick to organic cotton period care.
  • Wear organic cotton underwear.
  • Always wipe front to back after using the toilet.
  • Don’t use douches or deodorants on your vagina.

One of our core values is being research led in everything we do. We design our products with clinical research in mind and focus on creating the best possible health outcomes. We’re proud to be recommended by gynaecologists & have our period care sold in gynaecologist clinics across the UK.

B Corps are a group of companies & social enterprises that strive for better in terms of how they treat their team, the planet & the people in it. By joining B Corp, we committed to being guided not just by profit but to make the world a better place - a business with a conscience.

To become a B Corp certified business, we volunteered to assess everything from water usage to HR policies, to be held up to the highest standards of social & environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability. After this process, we were given a score based on our performance (which can be found in the B Corp directory) and we’ve been proud to be awarded the highest ranking B Corp period care brand in the world.

All Mooncup packaging is plastic free and recyclable. The unbleached, organic cotton storage bag that comes with each Mooncup sold is manufactured in a carbon neutral factory that plant a tree for every 1,000 units they make.

Did you know that mainstream period care is made up of up to 95% plastic? That’s about 5 plastic bags per pack of pads. Not only is plastic unnecessary in period care, it also means it ends up in landfill forever (in fact, 1 in 5 plastics found on a UK beach is a tampon).

Plastic can also play havoc with your vaginal health. The plastic used in mainstream pads is not breathable or hypoallergenic, so not only will you experience that sweaty pad feeling, but it can also create a perfect warm & moist environment that bacteria can thrive in and cause infections.

Do you think tampons are plastic free? Think again. Lots of mainstream brand tampons are made with microplastics and don’t feature any protective tampon veils, so you’re vulnerable to these particles staying inside of you and (yep, you guessed it) potentially cause infections.

In our period care, you won’t find any plastic. At all. From our organic cotton pads & tampons and reusable Mooncups & pants to our packaging & cornstarch wrapping.

Every year, we choose a number of causes to support, if you’d like to be a part in that decision make sure you sign up to our newsletter.
