So, we did.
Say hello to the new Mooncup pads. They’re everything you loved about our &SISTERS pads - just better. In this blog, we’re breaking down exactly what’s changed, and why.
First, Let’s Talk About What Stayed the Same
We didn’t mess with the essentials. The new Mooncup pads are still:

Made with a 100% organic cotton topsheet

Free from petroleum plastic, perfumes, dyes, and super absorbent polymers (SAPs)

Completely biodegradable, from top sheet to core

Gentle on sensitive skin and kind to the planet
All the goodness you expect. No compromise.
So, What’s New?
We’ve made two major improvements to give you even more confidence and comfort on your period:
1. A New, High-Performance Core
While our &SISTERS pads used organic cotton for both the topsheet and the core, Mooncup pads now feature an FSC-certified cellulose core made from sustainably sourced wood pulp. What does that mean for you?
More absorbency.
This new core locks in more fluid, giving you the same level of protection as mainstream brands - but without any petroleum plastic or irritants. It’s soft, breathable, and gets the job done.
2. Leakproof Wings (Yes, Really)
This is a total game-changer. Our new leakproof wings use a specially engineered barrier to prevent side leaks, so you can move through your day (or night) with total peace of mind.
Whether you’re on the move, mid-Pilates, or horizontal all night, these wings keep everything where it should be. No synthetic bulk. No itchy surprises. Just smarter design.
Why We Made the Change
The truth is, our community inspired this upgrade.
Many of you told us that while you loved using your Mooncup or our original pads, you sometimes needed extra protection - especially on heavier days or when out and about. We took that feedback seriously and spent years developing a pad that could do it all: high absorbency, leak protection, biodegradability, and comfort.
What do we mean when we say "plastic-free"?
When we say plastic-free, we mean free from petroleum-based plastics like PE or PP.
In our pads and liners we use a plant-based biopolymer made from cornstarch (PLA), which is compostable and biodegradable (certified to EN 13432 and ASTM standards), non-toxic in both production and end of life, and completely biobased.
While PLA is technically a polymer, it is not petroleum-derived and is accepted under leading ecological standards such as GOTS.
We clearly disclose its use and independently validate all our claims to ensure transparency and compliance with the most rigorous sustainability standards.
TL;DR?
Mooncup pads have everything you loved about our &SISTERS pads - plus two major upgrades:
