At Mooncup, we’ve spent over two decades challenging the stigma around periods and fighting for menstrual equity. We believe access to safe, sustainable period care is a basic human right - and we’re tired of seeing that right denied.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Henpicked and Specsavers to support Crisis, donating Mooncup period care to people experiencing homelessness and financial hardship.
The reality is harsh. Period poverty is real - and it hits hardest when life is already on the edge. Without stable housing, managing your period becomes a daily struggle - not just to access products, but to find clean, private spaces to use them.
In a recent study by the University of Southampton, nearly 30% of participants said they didn’t always have access to facilities to manage their periods. 44% said they didn’t always feel safe when changing menstrual products. One person described having to change a tampon in the corner of a subway station - because there was simply nowhere else to go.
This is menstrual inequity: a system that fails people when they need support the most.
Add to this the pressure of the cost-of-living crisis. WaterAid reports that:
-
24% of people who menstruate in the UK have struggled to afford period products in the past year
-
32% are worried they won’t be able to afford them in the future
-
1 in 5 have resorted to using makeshift materials like toilet paper or sponges
This isn’t about charity - it’s about justice. No one should be forced to bleed in public, feel unsafe, or go without because the system has decided their needs are secondary.
That’s why this donation matters. From the Mooncup - a reusable, zero-waste solution that lasts for years - to our organic cotton tampons and pads, we’re committed to offering long-term support that restores dignity and choice.
We’re proud to stand with Crisis, Henpicked, and Specsavers in collective action - because solidarity starts with showing up. And we won’t stop until everyone can manage their period with the dignity they deserve.
