They leaked. They chafed. They didn’t fit enough people - or real life. So, we made our own.

How to use

What are Mooncup Period Pants?

Mooncup Period Pants are reusable period-proof underwear – just like your regular pants, but with super absorbency powers. They’re designed to hold up to 10 tampons’ worth of period blood, keeping you protected all day (or night). No single-use waste, no hassle.

How do Mooncup Period Pants work?

It’s simple. Mooncup Period Pants look and feel like regular underwear but have a clever built-in absorbent layer that locks in menstrual fluid.

They’ve been designed for long wear – comfy enough to sleep in, and with 180° leak-proof coverage so you can move freely without worry. Plus, they last for up to 100 washes (about 4 years), saving up to 400 disposable products from landfill. Win-win.

How long can I wear Mooncup Period Pants for?

Each pair holds up to 10 tampons’ worth of flow. That can be up to 10 hours of wear – but it depends on your flow. Heavier day? Change sooner. Lighter day? Wear them longer.

What size Mooncup Period Pants do I need?

Our Period Pants are available in UK sizes 8–20, in both high and low-waist styles. We’re also working hard to expand our size range, sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know.

Please check our size guide carefully before ordering. Due to hygiene reasons, we’re unable to offer returns or exchanges on worn Period Pants.

Are Mooncup Period Pants suitable for incontinence?

No. Our pants are designed specifically for menstrual flow and are not suitable for incontinence.

Can Mooncup Period Pants be worn post-partum?

Absolutely. They’re perfect for the early days after birth. We recommend going a size up for extra comfort. Each pair holds up to 10 tampons’ worth of blood and can be worn for up to 10 hours.

Note: Postpartum bleeding can be heavier and include clots. Larger clots should be disposed of with tissue if needed.

How many pairs do I need?

We recommend starting with 3–5 pairs depending on how often you want to wash them during your cycle. This gives you a comfy rotation so you’re never caught short.

How do Mooncup Period Pants compare to pads, tampons or the Mooncup?

It depends on your lifestyle and flow. Some people use period pants on their own, while others like to combine them with a Mooncup for heavier days or overnight. It’s all about what works for your body.

Can I wear them alongside a tampon or Mooncup for extra protection?

Yep! You can wear Mooncup Period Pants as a back-up with your Mooncup or tampon for extra confidence on heavier days or while getting used to reusable products.

Are they suitable for teens or first periods?

Definitely. They’re a comfy, fuss-free choice for teens or anyone new to periods – no need to worry about inserting anything or carrying spares to school. Just wear, wash, and repeat.

Can I swim in my Mooncup Period Pants?

No – our pants aren’t designed for swimming. They're made from soft, breathable fabrics like organic cotton and modal, which aren’t suitable for use in water.

How often should I change my Mooncup Period Pants?

As a guide, every 10 hours. But always base this on your personal flow – if you usually go through more than 10 tampons a day, change more often.

Are Mooncup Period Pants a good replacement for the rest of my period routine?

They can – many people use them as a full switch. But you might prefer a mix, especially if you're out and about with limited washing facilities. We recommend owning a few pairs to rotate during your cycle.

Can I sleep in my Mooncup Period Pants?

Yes – and you’ll never want to go back. With full front-to-back leak protection, they’re made for dream-worthy period sleep.

Can I wear Mooncup Period Pants if I have an IUD or IUS (coil)?

Yes – they’re ideal. Just keep an eye on your flow, especially if your coil causes heavier periods.

How often should I replace my Mooncup Period Pants?

Unless the absorbent core is no longer working you don’t need to replace them. Mooncup Period Pants in general last up to 4 years (or around 100 washes) however, this depends on how frequently you wash them and take general good care of them.

Caring for your pants

Looking after your pants is easy:

  1. Rinse in cold water after use.
  2. Wash by hand or machine at 40°C or below.
  3. Air dry flat.

Avoid: fabric conditioner, bleach, tumble drying, or dry cleaning as these can affect absorbency.

Can I dry clean my Mooncup Period Pants?

No, you must follow our care instructions to ensure your pants stay absorbent.

How long do Mooncup Period Pants last?

With proper care, up to 4 years – that’s around 100 washes.

Troubleshooting

I think I can smell my period through my Mooncup Period Pants, is this normal?

A slight odour during your period is normal and natural. Our organic cotton layers are odour-wicking to help with this. If there’s a strong smell, it might mean your pants are full or have leaked.

If the smell persists, and especially if you notice unusual discharge or discomfort, it might be worth checking in with your GP as it could be a sign of infection.

Important: Avoid perfumed products or vaginal washes as they can disrupt your natural pH and can cause irritation or thrush.

I’ve tumbledried my Mooncup Period Pants, are they okay?

Oops! If it was a one-off, don’t panic. But repeated tumble drying can damage the absorbent core and shorten their lifespan. Stick to air-drying from now on to keep them performing at their best.

What should I do if I need to change my Mooncup Period Pants whilst out in public?

No big deal. Pop the used pair in a waterproof bag and wash them when you’re home. Simple.

Returns

Can I claim the Mooncup Satisfaction Guarantee with Period Pants?

No, the Mooncup Satisfaction Guarantee only applies to the Mooncup Original and Mooncup Beginner.

What if I’ve bought the wrong size Mooncup Period Pants?

Sadly, for hygiene reasons we can’t exchange or refund Period Pants. Please double-check our size guide before you buy.

Can I return or exchange my Mooncup Period Pants?

Due to the intimate nature of our products, we can’t offer returns or exchanges on our Period Pants, Cleaning Pot, Pads, Tampons or Liners unless faulty.
